Portfolios

Portfolios are developmental pictures of students’ progress. They allow for the sharing of processes of learning as well as the products that are created. The portfolio follows the child from grade to grade, allowing the child to reflect on his/her progress. Portfolios will be kept at TIS until a child permanently leaves.

Purposes of portfolios:

- Empower students to be active participants in their own learning;

- Encourage reflection (students, parents, teachers) on the learning process and achievements;

- Encourage students and parents to see learning as a continuous process;

- Encouraging a sense of pride in one’s work and thereby building self-steem;

- Encourage the collaboration of students, teachers and parents in the portfolio process;


 

Parent Student Conference

- Encourage emphasis on process as well as products;

- Give evidence of and celebrate achievements;

- Allow students to retain ownership of their work;

- Facilitate ongoing assessment;

- Examine growth over time;

- Provide information for the receiving teacher/school
