Swine Flu Info
Dear TIS Community,
Please be advised that we are monitoring this evolving situation closely. I have been in touch today with Dr. Michel Tailhades the Representative of WHO in Uzbekistan, TIMC, the Embassies of the USA, UK and Germany and with the Office of Overseas Schools of the US State Department.
At time of writing there are no reported cases of Swine Flu in Uzbekistan or Central Asia—thus our current level of threat is very low indeed. Never-the-less, given that any kind of influenza (‘flu) is quite contagious we have already begun to initiate several of the common sense steps contained in our Safety and Security Manual, Chapter VII Pandemic Threats (on this page of the website).
List of document to download:
- Swine influenza frequently asked questions
- Healthy Habits Poster
- Pandemic Threats
I will be posting all of this information on the school’s website and directing the entire TIS community to the attached and to the sites below.
We will be posting the “Healthy Habits” attachment in all school bathrooms and public spaces and ask that you use the information contained therein and in the WHO’s Swine Flu FAQ’s of April 27 to inform your children of the facts known to date and to remind them all of healthy habits that can help avoid such infections.

TIMC will be sharing similar help sheets, tips and advice with the international community in due course. Our cleaners already follow fairly stringent cleaning protocols following the Avian Flu outbreak a few years ago and we are reminding/ reviewing all of these with them today and this evening.
In the meantime please do adopt common sense precautions and be vigilant for yourselves, families and our students—any cold or flu’ like symptoms—please do to the Clinic to be checked out and stay home. We will send home (via the Clinic with your permission) any students displaying such symptoms.
Please refer any and all questions directly to me or to TIMC and I will keep us all posted as to the evolving situation with this one.
