Borrowing Books
The Elementary Grade Classes have one timetabled class every 4 days, during this time books are exchanged and classes are given in research skills and literature appreciation.
If your child selects a book that you feel is not appropriate, please return the next day and they may select another. If your child consistently makes choices which you feel are inappropriate please feel free to contact us.

Elementary students may borrow books for a period of 4 days. Secondary students may borrow for a period of 14 days.
If books are not renewed after the date of return, the book becomes overdue.
Students are notified if they have overdue books via library staff.
Students with overdue books may become restricted borrowers, until the overdue books are returned. This is at the discretion of the library staff. Our aim is to encourage children to return books when they have finished with them, for them to understand that other students may be waiting to read the book they are holding.
If a book is not returned after 60 days, students will be notified that the book needs to be replaced or replacement cost shoudl be paid.
Accidents happen; puppies and younger siblings chew the books, juice containers leak in backpacks. Books get left in the playground. Most children are responsible and if a book gets lost or damaged we stress the responsibility to report, and if necessary to replace or pay for a book which gets damaged while in their care.

What role does the library have in teaching and learning?
Teaching:
The specific teaching objectives of the Library are guided by the IBOs Primary Years Programme (PYP) in developing the IBO Learner Profile.
That is, the students as learners are encouraged to become:
inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, risk-takers, open-minded, caring, balanced and reflective.
In particular the objective is to support the statement:
We want our students to become Inquirers:
They develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and shoe independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.
From IBO Learner Profile Booklet 2006
The development and integration of information literacy skills and language literacy skills occurs through using the PYP Transdisciplinary Skills of :
Research Skills
Communication Skills
Thinking Skills
Social Skills
Self-management Skills
These are achieved through working and planning in partnership with class and other specialist teachers using a wide range of resources and other subject curriculum objectives.
