HCN Scholarship Program

The Grade 10 Host Country National (HCN) scholarship program was established in 1999 and has continued to select excellent students from the community in Uzbekistan since its inception. Every year TIS will offer up to three 100 percent tuition-free scholarships to Uzbek nationals from local schools for admission to Grade 10 in August 2024. The award of this scholarship is based on academic excellence, financial need, satisfactory ability in written and spoken English, attitude and personality, extracurricular activities and interests, and potential mutual benefit between the school and the student.

Watch the videos below featuring our current scholarship students and alumni to gain insight into how it has opened up educational opportunities for them.

! Please note:

  • Tashkent International School is not an English-training school but uses English throughout the curriculum in all classes except foreign languages.
  • The TIS scholarship is intended for a student whose family cannot pay the school fees without the scholarship.  For this reason, TIS will not accept regular admission applications from students who have unsuccessfully applied for the scholarship program.  This means that if a student applies for a scholarship and is not selected, that student cannot apply to TIS as a regular, fee-paying student.  Also, students who have applied to TIS in the past are not eligible for the TIS scholarship program.

What our scholarship students say

Tashkent International School unveils a different world to a person from a local school. The first pictures you draw in your mind about an international school will indeed materialize into pristine green lawns, foreign students eating and chatting on the lawn grass, giant trees that make the campus look like a park and a multinational community whose members never cease to surprise you with their sense of fashion or way of acting. However, they will be the last pictures that will come to your mind once you become part of its community.

For one, you will remember how TIS makes you feel. Here you will feel recognized because there are niches for any passion, talent or interest that you possess or have always wanted to explore. Do you like sports? In TIS we value athletics as much as we value academics. You can pick from a variety: soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field! Are you more artistic? The school holds many events where you can demonstrate your passion for music, drama or visual art. For music, the school holds different concerts, for art – art exhibitions and for drama – drama productions! Each event will enable you to enjoy your school experience and take pride in your commitments.

Secondly, the school will help you find yourself and enhance your soft skills. Have you ever wanted to help people in need? Have you always been interested in leadership and management? I was surprised by the overwhelming support and faith that the school community invests into its students. You will actually be able to run your own community service project or single-handedly organize entire school events! TIS offers various service projects and councils where you can channel your strengths and improve your weaknesses. Generally, it will present many opportunities to make your first steps to self-actualization.

Lastly, the school will challenge you academically much more than you expect. Although, the first year will smite you with somewhat peculiar academic demands, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program will transform your understanding of hard work. Yes, sleepless nights and buckets of coffee will prevail, but you will graduate with a solid knowledge of your subjects. Besides, the IB diploma will make you much more attractive to top-notch universities abroad!

To sum up, TIS will definitely surpass your expectations about an international school and leave you with memories for life.

Limitless Opportunities

Only three years ago, I was a student finishing 9th grade in local school and planning different options to continue my secondary education. I applied to the scholarship program at Tashkent International School (TIS) and was very lucky to get in.

Since then I have changed a lot. I learned to be creative, became more sociable and independent. You would not notice, but TIS also changes the way you think. Being around people from different countries makes you reconsider your opinions and values. You get an alternative look at things. You start questioning what you had taken for granted before.

I like to think that TIS pushes you to a new level. Lessons taught in English, a different learning environment, and unfamiliar work formats made academics challenging and at the same time very exciting for me. The thrill of learning that I have never experienced before pushed me forward to work harder, improve, and try my best.

Tashkent International School offers its students limitless opportunities. You get to do real laboratory experiments in science classes. You can study theater or participate in drama productions. You can initiate projects that you are passionate about. You can participate in student life by helping councils. You can join the school MUN club to learn about world issues, debate, and even travel to another country. At this school, a freedom to choose subjects you want to study and activities that interest you help shape a wonderful high school experience.

In my local school, we used to say, “School is your second home.” At TIS, I was able to understand what it means to love your school. I truly enjoy spending my time here. I like the school campus, beautiful park, modern buildings, and well-equipped classes. I am grateful to have amazing teachers, whose support you  always feel. They motivate you to become better, be more responsible and hardworking. I am very lucky to be a scholarship student at Tashkent International School.
