Introducing Our “Director for the Day”!
I am thrilled to announce Uliana as the winner of this year’s “Director for the Day”, a highlight of our recent Scholarship Gala! Next Wednesday, June 11, she will have the unique opportunity to take on the role of School Director for the day, immersing herself in the world of school leadership and decision-making.

Thank you to all our families for your generous contributions. I’m eager to see Uliana’s fresh perspective in action (and perhaps catch up on some rest!).

Last Day of School
This is a reminder to the community that our last day of classes, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, is a half day with an 11:30 am dismissal.

TIS Scholarship Program

Early Release Day
Wednesday, Jun 04 – 14:20

Grade 5 Promotion Ceremony 
We will celebrate all of the work of our Grade 5 students on Friday, June 13 starting at 08:30.  We will formally recognize students’ completion of the Primary Years Programme at Tashkent International School, and welcome them to the Middle Years Programme.  All Grade 5 families are invited to attend and join us for a celebration brunch afterward.

Sprinkler Day
The afternoon of Wednesday, June 4 will be our annual Sprinkler Day where we turn on the sprinklers outside for our students (and staff) to have some cool fun running and playing in the water.

Students should bring 

  • Shorts and tshirt that can get wet
  • Shoes or sandals that can get wet
  • Dry clothing to change into 
  • A towel

This is a day that students really enjoy.  Students will have an opportunity to change into dry clothes before dismissal.  Please be reminded that adults should not enter any of the student toilets.

Battle of The Books
Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading program for students in grades 4 and 5. The program aims to expose students to quality literature from a variety of genres. For a few months, our Battle of the Books participants have been meeting in the library to discuss the books and participate in activities aimed at deepening the level of understanding of each book. On June 10th, the teams will come together to participate in a trivia-style competition! All families are welcome to attend!

Final assembly
Our End of Year Elementary Assembly will be held on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 18 starting at 08:30.  This will be a special opportunity for us to say goodbye to the students and staff who are leaving TIS and also a chance for us to celebrate the amazing things that we have done together this year.  Families are welcome to join us for this important celebration.

Claire van LoonWe are proud to share that Ms. Claire Van Loon has accepted the position of Elementary School Assistant Principal/ Primary Years Programme Curriculum Coordinator for next academic year. Claire has done a great job as our Primary Years Programme Curriculum Coordinator at TIS and we are sure that she will continue to have a positive impact on all our students as she takes on this expanded leadership role. Prior to joining TIS, Claire has held leadership and teaching roles in the UK, Vietnam, Germany and her home country of Australia. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Claire.

Passport PhotoWendy Foreman is thrilled to be joining the TIS community as a PYP homeroom teacher next year. Her journey in education started over 20 years ago as a homeroom teacher and she has spent the last eight years as a teacher librarian, fostering a love of literacy and developing a foundation for students in information literacy and research.
Passport PhotoCurrier Piatt (Currie) is excited to be joining TIS as a PYP homeroom teacher. He has been living and working internationally for over 15 years now - with stops in Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and most recently Japan.
Passport PhotoMary Richards is excited to be joining the team at Tashkent International School as a PYP homeroom teacher. She is originally from the UK but has been living and teaching in Asia for more than twenty years. She has worked in Canada, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and most recently India, where she has been at Stonehill International school for the past six years. As a passionate PYP educator, she loves the inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning and is excited to be joining a well-established PYP school.

With over 15 years of experience in education, including 12 years as a school counselor in Dallas, Texas, Jessica is passionate about helping students build confidence, emotional competence, and empathy.

With a bachelor's degree in elementary education and K-12 special education, his passion for teaching has taken him on a global journey. He currently works in Kobe, Japan, as an elementary learning support teacher, and previously worked in Bangkok in a similar role.
Passport PhotoDaniel Le Cossec is excited to join the TIS family as the PE/Outdoor Learning educator. He is relatively new to education because he worked in another profession (programming) for more than a decade before he realized (thanks to his wife Wendy, who is also joining TIS) that he should be a teacher. He has worked as a PE teacher and football coach previously at The Kaust School in Saudi Arabia.

Class Lists and Placement for Next Year
Due to staff changes and movement in student numbers, we have decided not to follow looping for our Elementary classes next year.  During the past few weeks, grade level teachers have been working to create class lists and placement for next year.  This is a long process that considers nationality, language, gender, learning styles, learning challenges, behaviour support and social connections.  Lists are created by teachers working in teams and are then reviewed by the principal and counselor.  Groups of students are then assigned to teachers.  Class placement information will be shared with families and students on August 18.

SAT TEST 
Don’t forget, the SAT test is coming up on Saturday, June 7 at TIS from 07:30 to 11.00. Please arrive early to ensure you have enough time to settle in and begin the exam.
Remember to bring:

  • Your SAT admission ticket
  • A valid photo ID (passport or TIS badge) 

Important: The gate will close at 08:00 sharp.

ACT
The ACT test will be held on Saturday, June 14 at TIS. Please arrive promptly (07:45) at the designated testing location (Elementary Maker Space) to ensure you have enough time to settle in and begin the exam. Remember to bring your ACT admission ticket, valid photo ID, and your preferred number two pencils.

Grade 11 DP Core Exhibition
An Invitation to Explore! Join us on Thursday, June 12 from 15:30 – 17:30 in the Elementary MPR for an exhibition showcasing the incredible work of our students in the IB Diploma Programme (DP) Core. 

The DP Core is a cornerstone of the IB Diploma Programme, empowering students to delve into their individual interests, passions, and perspectives through three essential components:

  • CAS – Creativity, Activity, Service
  • ToK – Theory of Knowledge
  • EE – Extended Essay

We look forward to celebrating their journeys of inquiry, reflection, and growth with you!

Action Days
Please remember that June 16th and 17th are Passion Days in the Secondary School.  All students will be involved in activities throughout Monday and Tuesday. Please remember to encourage your child to dress appropriately for their activities. Please contact your child’s GLC for more information.

The ALL STAR Fundraising Carnival
We are excited to announce that The Owl Project will be hosting the All Stars Competition once again this year! Join us on Tuesday, June 17, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM for a day filled with fun and friendly competition.
