Athletic Awards Criteria

All athletic awards are decided upon by a committee, which gathers input from the school’s coaches, athletic directors and teammates. Each award also reflects TIS’ purpose: Challenge, Explore, Connect to make a positive difference.

Each term, the athletic awards are presented during the Athletic Assembly. Any athlete from Gr.6 to 12 who participated on a competitive team at TIS is eligible for the following awards:

Most Valuable Player
Most Improved
Most Sportsmanlike

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
  • Excellent attendance at practices, games and tournaments
  • Outstanding athletic accomplishment(s)
  • Was consistently a high-performing player
  • Exhibited exemplary team spirit both on and off the field, and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Consistently maintained a positive attitude and an enthusiastic approach when working with the team and coaches
  • The MVP award embodies Challenge —with the team and sport
  • Demonstrated leadership and Integrity
  • Was consistently a high-performing athlete
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
  • Regardless of team outcome, the recipient of this award showed the most improvement over the duration of the season
  • Demonstrated a willingness to learn and grow as an athlete and individual
  • Displayed leadership qualities and excellent team spirit
  • Consistently maintained a positive attitude — Explore — and an enthusiastic approach at all times
  • Willingly received and responded positively to constructive feedback
  • Excellent attendance at practices, games and tournaments
MOST SPORTSMANLIKE PLAYER
  • Along with athletic ability, displayed exceptional sportsmanlike to create a positive difference — Connect
  • Fair, courteous and gracious, regardless of game outcome
  • Displayed a personal commitment to training and individual skill development
  • Consistently maintained a positive attitude and an enthusiastic approach
  • Showed a willingness to work with coaches and fellow athletes
  • Was a positive influence on their fellow teammates
  • Showed a strong commitment to their sport to create a positive difference
