Scholarship Gala 2023

We are excited for the renewal of an annual TIS tradition, the Scholarship Gala! It was last held in the 2018-2019 school year. The Gala is the prime fundraising event for our TIS Scholarship Program. All funds raised go to supporting our Secondary School Scholarship Program. It provides tuition-waivers for up to 23 Uzbek students, including some of our employees’ children and others from the wider Uzbekistan community.

Please join us on Saturday, February 11 at the Obihayat Restaurant from 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM. The location of the restaurant can be found here. Tickets are USD 80. Please email Yulia to book a ticket or table (10 people to a table). If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation you can do that here.

TIS Welcomes New Secondary Principal

I am happy to announce that TIS Assistant Principal Robert Jackson has accepted the position of Secondary Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. After an extensive search process, Rob emerged as the best candidate and we are looking forward to him continuing the outstanding work of the current secondary principal, Angelika Kuster.

Cold Weather Measures

With temperatures getting above freezing later this week, we do not anticipate any more emergency communication coming from the school. School leadership is closely monitoring utilities, room temperatures, road conditions, pathways on campus and danger from falling objects (icicles and trees). The groundskeepers, maintenance team, business office, housekeepers and guards will continue to keep our students and employees safe on campus over the winter.

Communications

We have been working very hard to streamline our channels of communication. The following are the channels of communications we have and what they are used for.

  1. Newsletter – this is looking forward and includes everything we want to communicate about what is happening in the next two weeks. It goes out at 10am every second Tuesday.
  2. Social Media – we are primarily using Instagram and Facebook to communicate things that have already happened. This is where you can find interesting updates on what has been happening around school. You can join our Instagram account here. And our Facebook account here.
  3. ManageBac – for the Secondary school this is used to communicate whole class or whole grade updates and communication from subject teachers, GLCs and Coordinators. Teachers also use Managebac to communicate with individual students and their families by sharing assessment feedback, student portfolios and reflections.
  4. Toddle – for the Elementary school this is used for teacher communication with grade level parents, weekly class updates, student portfolios, journals and reporting. Toddle is also used for Elementary school wide announcements and updates.
  5. Communications Email – we have launched this and it will be used for group emails. The purpose of this is to try and cut down on parent emails.
  6. Telegram – we have set up a Telegram channel. You can join it here. It is one way communication. We will mostly use it for reminders. We will also start sharing a link to this Newletter there.
Family Platform

We will be launching a Family Platform on our website in February. The aim of it is to make it easier for families and parents to find what they are looking for. It will be a one stop shop for parents to find everything they need. It will replace the parent handbooks. There will be a section for Elementary and one for Secondary and it will include links to all the Athletics and Co-curricular Activities. It will also include links to Toddle and Managebac. We will keep you updated on this.

Sleep Presentation

We sleep for one third of our lives, which is about 30 years in total. What is so vital about sleep? Why in recent decades, we get less and less sleep? How does it affect our learning and memory? And what can we do to improve the sleep of our children and teenages?

Kristina Mecelicaite is conducting a parent presentation on sleep on Thursday, January 26 at 8:30am in room 705. Please sign up here if you want to attend.
