TIS Family Platform

In an effort to improve school/parent communication we are rolling out a Family Platform as an extension of our website. Our aim is for it to be a place where families can access the information they need in one location. It has replaced the handbooks and includes all the sporting and CCA information along with cafeteria menus and updates. It also has links to other platforms you might need to access like Toddle or Managebac.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 1 March, you will receive an email with your login credentials. There will be full instructions on how to access the platform and who to contact if you have any issues.

In the meantime please take a look at the video below for a brief overview of what to expect.

2023-2024 School Calendar

The TIS Board of Trustees in their February meeting approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar. It is similar to previous calendars. One change is we eliminated Professional Development Half Days (11:30 AM dismissal) and are moving to an Early Release (14:20) every other week. We also scheduled an extra day of classes in anticipation of possible snow or no electricity cancellations.

Annual Community Survey

Thanks to the 108 community members who completed the annual survey. It is our goal for 200 people to respond to the survey. This will allow us to get an accurate picture of the needs of our stakeholders. The survey is open to parents, guardians and employees and can be found here Students complete a separate survey in secondary school. Results of the survey will be shared with the community in March.

Elementary Assembly

We will celebrate our next Elementary Assembly at 08:20 on Wednesday 1 March. Grade 2 will share their learning and we will have our usual celebrations and fun. Families are encouraged to attend.

Dressing for Weather

As the weather starts to warm up, it is important for students to dress appropriately.

Layers – students should wear layers that they can remove as the day gets warmer. Please label your child’s clothing with their name so it does not get lost.

Rain Gear – as we move toward Spring, we will have rainy days. Children should have a waterproof jacket with a hood and waterproof boots. We will be going outside in the rain for breaks and learning. Please do not send umbrellas. Students need both hands for learning and playing.

Navruz Celebrations

We will be celebrating Navruz and Uzbek culture from Monday 13 March to Friday 17 March. There will be a special Navruz Assembly on Wednesday 15 March. We will have performances, celebrations, and even a cup of Sumalak to enjoy. Check on Toddle for more details next week.

DP Subject Select Information Evening for Grade 10 Families

Preparations are underway for the 2023-2024 academic year and we are inviting grade 10 families to information evening sessions with DP teachers on DP subject selection.

The winter CCA season will end for elementary and secondary students on March 17.

We will be launching the Spring registration on March 17 at 2 pm and will be open until March 24 at 3 pm. Keep an eye out for more information in the next newsletter.

TEDx Youth

Our 3rd TEDxYouth@TashkentIntlSchool will take place Saturday, March 4th at 9:30 am in the MPR. This year we have 11 speakers, so the event will be a little longer.

Speakers are: G9: Nigora A., Joshua K., G10: Akbar, Malika, Rijul, Valeria, Fernanda, Yusuf, Kyuhyeon; G11: Sophia K.; G12: Apoorva Panda.

We will also have a mystery guest speaker from the community.

Hamburg Girls Choir Visit

TIS students and music faculty are connecting with the Hamburg (Germany) Girls’ Choir during their visit with the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan March 3-7, 2023. The world famous choir travels extensively all over the world.

They will be holding workshops with our elementary and secondary music students on Monday, March 6, 2023. There will be a Elementary and Secondary lunchtime concert from 12:30 pm to 1:20 pm in the park on that day where parents are invited to attend.

Our students are also invited to participate in the workshop and attend the free concert at the here on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The Free Concert is from 2 pm -3:30 pm.

This is a unique learning opportunity for our students and we are proud to host the choir at the school. You can find their YouTube channel here

Greener Tomorrows – Spring Eco Bazaar

Greener Tomorrows is excited to invite you to our Spring Eco Bazaar on Friday 17 March from 3:30 to 5 pm in the TIS Park Area. Come along to explore and support the different stalls and activities, or sign up to participate!

The Spring Eco Bazaar will include…

• Community Garage Sale (organized by Community Impact): If you have books, toys, clothes, or any household items that you don’t use anymore, don’t throw them away! Rent a table for just 100.000 UZS to sell your items to someone who can reuse them and reduce your environmental footprint! Click herefor more information about the Garage Sale and to register for a table.
• Eco-Friendly & Handmade Product Sales (organized by Green Shop, The Honey Project, and more!): Come and browse the beautiful and environmentally-conscious products that have been designed and created by our students, faculty, and other community members.
• Uzbek Cultural Performances and Activities: To celebrate the end of TIS Uzbek week, we will also host some cultural performances and activities for everyone to enjoy and participate in! More information is coming soon.
