Welcome to the Tashkent International School!

We are a learning community that challenges ourselves, explores boundaries, and makes connections to create a positive difference.

The Purpose of TIS above is something all of us can strive to achieve. In a world of increasing uncertainty and conflict, schools are as author Meg Wheatley puts it, “islands of sanity”. Our Purpose is focused on developing young people to their fullest potential and all of connecting with each other. Our ultimate goal is to create a positive difference in the world.

We are honored to serve the international community of Tashkent for 29 years. TIS is the most established international school in Uzbekistan. We are proud of our non-profit, independent roots, being founded in 1994 by the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the following five embassies:

  • Republic of Korea
  • United States of America
  • Federal Republic of Germany
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • French Republic

We continue our strong relationship with the diplomatic and international business community of Tashkent. We celebrate our diversity and welcome international families from over 40 countries. We match this in our faculty with over 70 foreign employees. We are delighted to be welcomed by our host country, Uzbekistan, and value the unique Uzbek cultural characteristics that shape our international school culture. We are recognized by the Uzbek Ministry of Education as a licensed school.

TIS is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. As an IB World School, we are committed to the beliefs and curricular framework of the IB. We believe the progressive and humanist approach of the IB puts the student in the center of his or her learning and prepares students for success in university and the global economy. The IB challenges us in its mission to “develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” We value the well-being of our students as much as their academic achievement. We offer three IB curricular programs:

  • Primary Years Programme (PYP) from preschool to grade 5;
  • Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6 through 10; and
  • Diploma Programme (DP) in grades 11 and 12.

We are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).

We also value well-being and provide a safe, nurturing environment where all students can discover what they are good at and explore interests with a wide range of subjects and experiences. This includes participating in the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) and CAFA (Central Asia Federation of Athletics and Activities). TIS encourages and supports our students to focus on community service and participate fully in a rich co-curricular program of sports, fine arts, and a wide range of clubs and activities.

For prospective families considering a move to Tashkent, we encourage you to contact us and join the TIS community, Home of the Owls! I invite you to visit my personal and professional blogs, and you can follow me on X (@billkralovec).

Sincerely,

Bill Kralovec
